Welcome

Search and Rescue (SAR) issues have always been high up on the agenda of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). However, a number of activities are carried out by various players within the SAR community that are not always reported to the appropriate IMO committees for a number of reasons. In order to gather more information about these developments the IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) has given the task to the World Maritime University (WMU) to search for information about research projects, training courses and other relevant developments within the SAR community as part of a dedicated project carried out between 2005 and 2010.

WMU has collected information, summarized it and the analysis of these summaries was reported to relevant bodies in IMO. The project was finished in 2010. However, WMU remains committed to continue making relevant information about SAR developments available to interested parties world-wide free of charge. If you want to post such information, may it be a project summary or report, an exercise evaluation or an accident report, as well as SAR statistics, feel free to contact us. WMU is happy to include your reports in the information repository of this website.
